Our peppermint infusion is just that – 100% peppermint leaf and nothing else. It is specially dried in hot air chambers, a process which takes only 4 hours compared to the usual drying time of several days and ensures that its volatile oils remain potent.
Peppermint is a perennial herb that has been popular for centuries for its deliciously fresh taste and reviving properties. It is said that Greeks and Romans crowned themselves with peppermint leaves at their feasts and adorned their tables with its sprays.
A hybrid of watermint and spearmint, it is occasionally found wild with its parent species, but it was only recognised as a distinct species by an English botanist in the 17th Century. It soon became cultivated widely and such was its popularity that, by 1750, it was grown commercially around the London area.
Directions: Allow boiled water to cool for about a minute. Preheat the teapot and add 2-3 grams (about 1 to 1 ½ teaspoons) per person. Allow to infuse for 2-3 minutes, according to taste.
