Quality, Sustainability, Fairness

We care deeply about the purity and quality of our teas and champion traditional methods of production. We believe that more and faster have resulted in reductions in quality to the detriment of both the land and the people who work it. We therefore passionately support small-scale food production, trading directly with farmers whenever possible. We never use artificial additives, chlorine-bleached teabags or GM crops.

We are members of The Organic Food Federation, supporters of the Slow Food movement and members of Fairtrade.

We personally visit tea gardens and plantations where possible and support, through our Dragonfly Project Fund, charitable organisations active in each country. So in China, we support the Tibet Relief Fund, which is working to help schools. In South Africa, with the Music Archiving Unit at the University of Cape Town, we are helping the descendants of the Khoi people preserve their unique cultural heritage and identity.

In India and parts of Africa, we support the work of the Berkeley Reafforestation Trust, which is planting trees in the Himalayas to help reduce soil erosion and produce a sustainable and accessible fuel resource.

In the early 1990's, Bruce Ginsberg founded, funded and organised the Tree 2000 Foundation under the patronage of Mother Teresa, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, to campaign for treeplanting globally, as a millennium celebration activity to raise environmental awareness.
